These bowls are the latest experiment with cryolite on forms. I sprinkled dry cryolite onto the initial thrown form then chattered back in to create interesting patterns.

- I love to create and be around creativity. From an early age I could be found spending hours drawing, constructing, or creating elaborate fantasy realms. This passion culminated in a career in art education where I am able create an environment in which the students and I get to make art all year long. Also, with the help of my brother, I built a summer studio from a greenhouse kit where I can use my teacher time off to keep the creativity flowing.

I love to carve back into clay after it has reached the leatherhard state. Carving is so relaxing and meditative. I love how it is a discovery process and, like drawing for me, it allows for creativity within the making process.

Here is a stack of pots layered in sawdust, salt, oxides, and dogfood ready to be fired.

Covering the pile with a metal lid protects the pots below from the wood as it settles into the fire.
Pots from the pit
Spontainious forms with free form touches work well with the markings left from the fire. The nooks and crannies also allow for the painting and decorating that comes after the fire.

Extreme Chatter
Stoneware clay holds up well to high speed high friction chattering. It doesn't break down as quickly as porcelain.
